Waters Corporation

The new Waters Corporation facility in the West Midland represents a significant investment in the region, underscoring the company's commitment to maintaining and growing its local manufacturing capabilities and capacity. The new 4,000sq mtrs of production facility is more than triples existing operations and enhances the company's machining capacity. This site will produce critical components for products developed and manufactured at Waters Mass Spectrometry Center of Excellence in Wilmslow, UK and in Wexford, Ireland. To ensure they get the best from their machines, Waters contracted KELCH UK to supply the production support systems. With around 35 CNC machine tools, it was important to have the correct equipment and systems in place to manage tools and data on the shop floor. After discussing with the customer their specific goals and how best KELCH could help with improving the productivity, we then set about developing a solution.

KELCH UK designed the tool setting area and supplied, installed and trained the users of the equipment. The key elements included the Kenova Set Line V646 CNC tool presetter, ISG3410 induction shrink, tool storage units, work stations, tool cleaning and transport trolleys. The design encompassed the tool flow between the machines and the setting area. The tool data is sent via the network directly to the machine control, thus speeding up tool loading into the carousel. This also reduces the risk of data transfer errors. KELCH is a one stop supplier for all production needs from tool holders, tool storage, vending systems and data management software.
